Supernode Battery Energy Storage System

The proposed Supernode project comprises a $2.5 billion data centre integrated facility powered by renewables and battery storage. The project is located near the South Pine electricity substation.

Stage One includes the delivery of a 250 megawatt / 500 megawatt hour battery. 

Following Stage One, a data storage facility is planned to be added to the site.

PROJECT HISTORY

Jul 2022 Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners announced they have received approval for a data storage campus on a site they have acquired adjacent to the South Pine Subtation at Brendale. Foreign Investment Review Board and local planning permissions from Moreton Bay Regional Council have been received for up to four hyperscale data centres, offering up to 800 megawatts of power supply capacity. Quinbrook also announced that they had lodged a planning application for a 2,000 megawatt-hour BESS to be co-located within the Supernode precinct.
Apr 2024 Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners announced the financial close of Stage One of the BESS, with construction expected to commence in 2024. Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners also announced that Origin Energy has committed to the full capacity of Stage One under a long-term offtake agreement.
