Swanbank Clean Energy Hub

The Queensland Government’s publicly-owned CleanCo is developing the Swanbank Clean Energy Hub.

As part of this site, a 250-megawatt / 500-megawatt hour battery will be constructed on site of the former Swanbank Power Station. The lithium iron phosphate battery will comprise 138 battery modules, and will connect to the electricity grid via a new 275-kilovolt substation.

Funding contributions

Queensland Government

$330 million in funding has been provided from the Queensland Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund.

Procurement note:

Yurika is providing infrastructure and installation, and Tesla is supplying the batteries for the project.

PROJECT HISTORY

2021 Project announcement by CleanCo.
Dec 2023 The Swanbank Clean Energy Hub community infrastructure masterplan was endorsed by the CleanCo board. A shortlist of energy generation and storage options for the site were also confirmed.
Feb 2024 Construction commenced on the project.
Feb 2026 CleanCo announced that the project has been completed, with operations expected to commence following the completion of final regulatory and market approvals.
