Sydney Football Stadium

Sydney Football Stadium, also known as 'Allianz Stadium', is a 42,500 capacity stadium located in Moore Park, Sydney. The Venue will be operated by Venues NSW.

The project is split into two stages.

  • Stage One involves demolition of the existing structure, and
  • Stage Two involves construction of the new facility.

Construction components of Stage Two include:

  • installation of 42,500 undercover seats 
  • construction of stadium facade
  • construction of steel roof
  • turf installation, and
  • public domain works.

Procurement note:

In 2018, Lendlease was awarded the tender to deliver Stage One and Two of the project, however, the NSW Government subsequently re-tendered  and awarded Stage Two of the project to John Holland.

PROJECT HISTORY

2014 The project was identified in Infrastructure NSW's State Infrastructure Strategy.
Nov 2017 The NSW Government committed $2 billion to the redevelopment of Sydney Football Stadium and Stadium Australia.
Mar 2018 Infrastructure NSW recommended business cases be developed for both stadium redevelopments in its updated State Infrastructure Strategy, which was supported by the NSW Government.
May 2018 The NSW Government allocated $729 million towards the redevelopment in its 2018-19 Budget.
Jun 2018 The NSW Government shortlisted two bidders to deliver Stage One and Two of the project. Shortlisted bidders include Lendlease and Multiplex. Separately, the Environmental Impact Statement was released for public consultation.
Oct 2018 Cox Architects wins design competition for the new stadium and designs were released.
Dec 2018 Stage One recieved planning approval.
Dec 2018 Lendlease was awarded the contract for Stage One and Two of the Sydney Football Stadium redevelopment.
Jan 2019 Demolition commenced on the Sydney Football Stadium as part of Stage One.
Jun 2019 NSW Government announced works for Stage Two would be re-tendered. Lendlease would continue works on Stage One. Separately, Infrastructure NSW lodged a State Significant Development Application with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment for Stage Two of the project.
Aug 2019 The NSW Govenrment shortlisted John Holland and Multiplex for Stage Two.
Dec 2019 The NSW Government announced that the total estimated cost of Stage One and Two had been revised up from $729 million to $828 million.
Dec 2019 The NSW Government awarded a $735 million contract to John Holland for delivery of the Sydney Football Stadium - having gone back to the market to re-award the contract.
Jun 2022 Construction completion was reached for Stage Two
Aug 2022 The new Sydney Football Stadium opened to the public and commenced operations.
