Sydney Metro - City and South West - Martin Place Station

The Sydney Metro City & Southwest project will see a new 30-kilometre metro line extending from Chatswood, under Sydney Harbour, through new CBD stations and southwest to Bankstown.

The City & Southwest line will see new stations constructed at Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Pitt Street, Martin Place and Waterloo. The stations will be delivered as integrated station developments (ISD), allowing for over-station developments.

The Martin Place ISD comprises:

  • an underground metro station
  • two commercial towers at 1 Elizabeth Street and 39 Martin Place
  • a retail and dining precinct
  • underground pedestrian connection to the existing heavy rail station, and
  • upgrades to surrounding public spaces.

PROJECT HISTORY

Feb 2016 The NSW Government recieved an Unsolicited Proposal from Macquarie Group to deliver the Sydney Metro Martin Place ISD.
Sep 2018 The NSW Government has accepted the unsolicited proposal from Macquarie Group to deliver the underground station component of the new Martin Place metro station. The NSW Government will receive $355 million from Macquarie Group for the air rights above the new metro station and Macquarie will deliver new commercial buildings, pedestrian connections and retail space. Macquarie Group appointed Lendlease as its design and construction contractor to deliver the new station, retail space, pedestrian connections and the buildings above the station.
Oct 2018 Construction commenced on the project.
Aug 2024 Construction was completed on the project.
