The Sydney Metro City & Southwest - Tunnel and Station Excavation Works includes 15.5km of twin tunnels between Chatswood and Marrickville. The full project scope includes:

15.5km twin running tunnels each of approximately six metres internal diameter

cross passages between the running tunnels

demolition, excavation and concrete structure for dives at Chatswood and Marrickville

demolition and excavation works for new stations at Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street and Waterloo, and

four mined caverns for a rail crossover at Barangaroo and new stations at Victoria Cross, Martin Place and Pitt Street

| Aug 2017 | The contract for the project was awarded to a John Holland, CPB Contractors, and Ghella Joint Venture. Seperatley, Independent Certifier Services for the project were awarded to APP Corporation. |
| Oct 2018 | Works commenced on the project, with Tunnel Boring Machine Nancy launched from Marrickville. |
| Mar 2020 | Work concluded on the project following the end of tunnelling. |
