The Wave Stage Three will see the delivery of a bus rapid transit metro network between Birtinya and Sunshine Coast Airport, connecting with the Wave Stage – Stage Two heavy rail network at Birtinya.
The Wave Stage Three will see the construction of stations at:
- Sunshine Coast University Hospital
- Birtinya
- Mountain Creek
- Multiple stations in the Maroochydore city centre, and
- Sunshine Coast Airport.
Other works associated with the Wave Stage Three project include:
- civil works associated with a 12-kilometre corridor between Birtinya and Maroochydore
- bridge over Wyuna Canal
- ramps and bridges at the Sunshine motorway, and
- 4-6 bridges to facilitate movement in the Buderim Avenue and Mooloolaba Road interchange.

| Mar 2025 | The 2032 Delivery Plan for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games was released. The Wave project was announced as a required project for the 2032 Games. The plan confirmed that Stage Three of the Wave would be delivered as a bus rapid transit project instead of heavy rail like Stage One and Two. |
