Upper Hunter Battery Energy Storage System

The Upper Hunter Baterry Energy Storage System (BESS), proposed by Maizewood, is a proposed energy storage project to be located near Aberdeen, NSW. The scope of the works includes:

  • construction of a BESS with up to 400 megawatt / 800 megawatt hour capacity
  • overhead or underground cables, and 
  • installation of a switching station and associated infrastructure.

 

PROJECT HISTORY

Aug 2023 Maizewood lodged a scoping report and a request for SEARs with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
Sep 2023 The NSW Department of Planning and Environment issued the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for the project.
