WA New Women and Babies Hospital

The project will see the construction of a new Women and Babies Hospital within the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct. Services currently delivered at the King Edward Memorial Hospital will be relocated 20 km south to the new hospital. Alongside delivery of the new Women and Babies facility, the WA Government is also planning the expansion of services at Osborne Park Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital.

Works at the New Women’s and Babies Hospital will comprise:

  • obstetrics
  • gynaecology, and
  • neonatal services

At the Osborne Park Hospital site, works will include expansion of obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatal services, as well as a new Family Birthing Centre alongside the hospital.

At the Perth Children’s Hospital, neonatal services will be expanded.

PROJECT HISTORY

Dec 2020 The Mid-year review set aside $1.8 billion for the project. By this stage, preliminary planning had already commenced following the initial investment of $3.3 million in the 2019-20 State Budget.
Feb 2021 Artist impressions of the new Women and Babies Hospital were unveiled.
Jan 2022 The WA Government confirmed the site location for the project, which will be constructed north of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital G Block at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre. The scope of works and designs will be determined by a detailed business case and project definition plan, which were expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
Apr 2023 The WA Government announced a relocation of the project's proposed site to within the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct, south of the originally proposed location within the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital campus. The WA Government also announced an expected construction commencement date of 2024.
Feb 2024 The WA Government opened Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for a managing contractor to design and construct the new Women and Babies Hospital, the expansion of services at Osborne Park Hospital and neonatal services at Perth Children's Hospital, with EOIs closing on 12 March 2024.
Dec 2024 The WA Government announced a Joint Venture comprising Webuild and Roberts Co as the preferred proponent to deliver the $1.8 billion project, signing a Letter of Intent to progress to final negotiations. The Government announced early works are expected to commence in early 2025.
Jan 2025 The WA Government announced that Georgiou Group had been awarded the contract to deliver the new western car park as part of the project.
Feb 2025 Procurement commenced procurement for Cost Planning and Time Planning advisory services for the project, closing on 11 March.
