The WA Government has allocated $1.8 billion to a Special Purpose Account for a new Women and Babies Hospital. The location of the new hospital will be at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital campus, north of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital G Block, and will replace King Edward Memorial Hospital, WA’s only referral centre for complex pregnancies.

Dec 2020 | The Mid-year review set aside $1.8 billion for the project. By this stage, preliminary planning had already commenced following the initial investment of $3.3 million in the 2019-20 State Budget. |
Feb 2021 | Artist impressions of the new Women and Babies Hospital were unveiled. |
Jan 2022 | The WA Government confirmed the site location for the project, which will be constructed north of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital G Block at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre. The scope of works and designs will be determined by a detailed business case and project definition plan, which were expected to be completed by the end of 2022. |
