The Wallerawang Battery involves the development of a 500-megawatt / 1000-megawatt-hour Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project will also include a transmission line connection between the BESS and the nearby TransGrid Wallerawang 330 kilovolt substation. Ancillary upgrades will also be made to the existing Wallerawang substation as part of the project.
The project will be located in the former Wallerawang Power Station site, approximately 12 kilometres north-west of Lithgow, within the Lithgow City Council Local Government Area. This project is separate to the Great Western Battery which is located in the same area.
