Wellington Battery Energy Storage System

AMPYR proposes to develop the Wellington Battery Energy Storage System. The project consists of a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) and up to 1,000 megawatt-hours (MWh), with associated infrastructure. The project will connect to the Wellington TransGrid substation via a 330-kilovolt (kV) overhead or underground transmission lines.

The project will be in close proximity to Wellington TransGrid substation and Wellington Solar Farm project. The Wellington Battery Energy Storage System would be located approximately three kilometres north-east of Wellington, in the Central West of New South Wales, within the Dubbo Regional Council local government area.

Sep 2021 Scoping report submitted to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) by project proponent, AMPYR.
Oct 2021 The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment issued Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for the project.
Nov 2022 The NSW Department of Planning and Environment placed AMPYR Australia's Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Wellington Battery Energy Storage System on public exhibition, closing 15 December.
Dec 2023 The project received State Significant Development planning approval from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
