Werribee Mercy Hospital ED Expansion

The Werribee Mercy Hospital ED Expansion project aims to increase the capacity of the Werribee Mercy Hospital and Casey Hospital Berwick.

 The expansion will increase treatment spaces at the hospital from 33 to 67. This includes:

  • four new resuscitation bays
  • seven consultation / interview rooms
  • eight fast-track bays
  • four adult mental health spaces
  • 16 short-stay beds
  • 36 emergency care cubicles
  • a behavioural assessment room, and
  • separate but co-located paediatric and acute and short stay zones.

PROJECT HISTORY

May 2022 The 2022-23 Victorian Budget announced the project, with a total estimated cost of $236 million and expected completion date of 2026.
May 2023 The 2023-24 Victorian Budget allocated $14 million to the project in FY2023-24.
Oct 2023 The Victorian Government issued a Request for Tenders for the main works contract of the project, closing on 26 October.
Dec 2023 The Victorian Government released the concept design for the project.
May 2024 The 2024-25 Victorian Budget announced the project's total estimated cost has increased to $280 million. The Budget allocated $68 million to the project in FY2024-25.
Aug 2024 The Victorian Government announced the contract to deliver the project had been awarded to Besix Watpac, with construction also commencing in August.
