The Whaleback Ridge Renewable Energy Project, located around Lake Pieman near Zeehan in western Tasmania, will involve the establishment of up to 500 wind turbine generators, with a projected generating capacity of 3,000 megawatts (MW).
The proponent, Westcoast Renewable Energy, has identified a wide area of turbine exclusion zones. The Project includes the development of collector substations, access roads, office and workshop facilities, installation of overhead and underground transmission lines, and the use of mobile concrete batching plants.
The project will be staged to meet demand in the market and capacity on the transmission network, with an expectation that all project stages are likely to be constructed and operational by 2040, depending on market demand.
