Whaleback Ridge Renewable Energy Project Stage One

The Whaleback Ridge Renewable Energy Project, located around Lake Pieman near Zeehan in western Tasmania, will involve the establishment of up to 500 wind turbine generators, with a projected generating capacity of 3,000 megawatts (MW).

The first stage of the development would see the delivery of approximately 45 turbines with a renewable energy capacity of 288 MW.

Oct 2023 The Major Project Proposal was lodged to the Tasmanian Planning Commission.
Mar 2024 The Tasmanian Minister for Planning declared the proposal a major project, enabling detailed planning.
