Yanco Battery Energy Storage System

ACEnergy's proposed Yanco Battery Energy Storage System is a 250-megawatt (MW) / 1,100-megwatt hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS). The project is to be located near Yanco, approximately 7 km south of Leeton and 25 km north-west of Narrandera in south-western New South Wales. It would be located just outside of the South West Renewable Energy Zone. 

The scope of the project includes: 

  • a 250MW / 1,100 MWh, four-hour BESS
  • underground cabling connecting BESS and MVPS
  • a 33/132kV substation
  • a transmission line connecting the BESS substation to the Yanco Transgrid substation, and 
  • temporary construction and property access. 

 

PROJECT HISTORY

Feb 2024 ACEnergy submitted a Scoping Report to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
Feb 2024 The NSW Planning Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) were issued on 28 February, enabling the project to proceed to the next stage of planning.
